Always Becoming
Wherever I am in the world, I want to be a good steward of my gifts. Whether it is my artwork or my engagement, let it be my most valuable currency.
Zaidi is a nomadic multimedia artist who has been exploring the world for over 25 years. In the fall of 1999 she left her hometown of Grand Rapids, MI. to study Art and Creative Writing at Western Michigan University. After graduation, she continued her studies at the Art Institute of Philadelphia, focusing on Industrial Design, while attending Palmer Theological Seminary, for better understanding of her own religious and spiritual pursuits.
She has worked in schools, corrections, camps, the arts, and acquired certifications as a personal trainer and later on, a life coach. In 2018, Zaidi created and opened Andro Barbershop (Everyone’s Barbershop) for the queer community, as well as black women and femmes, in the historical Pioneer Square of Seattle, WA. In 2020, Andro’s doors closed due to COVID.
In 2021, Zaidi decided that it was time to be open to learning more (whatever she didn’t know and needed to know), living more, and finding out what life would offer after having checked all of her achievement boxes. There had been almost 5 years since her last, A’ha! She saw COVID as an opportunity to proceed fearlessly into an unknown life, and a desire to be more intentional about living it than she had been her first 40 years.
Throughout 2022, Zaidi visited, worked, and explored new places with hopes of finding a new state or country to call home. From Los Angeles to Barcelona, DC to Brooklyn, and a few places in between, the artist found herself, after 25 years, returning to Grand Rapids for a longer time than she had since before leaving off to college.
Zaidi’s journey focuses on curating a life that practices Love and Freedom through awareness, and the engagement of communal care through art; bridging needs, wants, and desires to create an expansive future that we can all sustain together.
As of 2025, this artist has been creating art in multiple mediums, started a communal writing practice, Puffs & Prompts, and uses Washington, D.C./ Maryland as a home base. Spending 6 months out of the year traveling throughout Africa, Zaidi offers her talents and skills whenever she has the opportunity to do so.
